The Cost of Vacation

I finally figured out how much we spent on our recent trip to Texas, and it isn't pretty although it could have been much worse. This reiterates in my mind the need to have a savings account established specifically for travel, because with more than half of our family in other states travel is always going to be a fact of our lives.

Here is a breakdown of what we spent on this week long trip:

Food - $194.24
Gas (Filling up my mom's car) - $60.64
Entertainment (Bowling, Laser Tag, etc.) - $39.23
Luggage Cart Rental at the Airport - $3.00
Off-Site Parking - $88.27
Airline Tickets (We bought a few months ago) - $552.00

Total - $937.38

Thankfully we stayed with family the whole trip so we did not have to cover hotel costs.

We will not be taking another trip, to visit family or otherwise, until December 2008. I hope by that time we can have a little saved in advance so that we don't blow our budget for the month so badly.
