May Grocery Challenge: How I Did

As you may or may not remember I joined the May Grocery Challenge at Give Me Back My Five Bucks. My goal was to spend only $300 for our family of 3 for the month of May, and I failed. I ended up spending $450, but I feel like I have a pretty good excuse for that since our family of 3 became a family of 4 at the beginning of May with the birth of our daughter. I know you might be thinking "How can a baby cause you to spend an extra $150 in groceries in one month?", and probably not all of that extra money was spent on her, but I swear we have been buying several packs of diapers each week at around $11 a piece. Add to that baby wipes, nursing pads, and a few other odds and ends we didn't have to buy before and you will see how fast it all adds up! I am adjusting our monthly grocery budget to $400, or $100 per person, to compensate for the new expenses.
