I hate that I haven't been able to post everyday, I really do, but with family here from out of town for the past three weeks it has been impossible. Today my husband set up his work laptop in our room so that I can start posting at night before I go to bed, which is pretty much the only free time I have had. Here are a few things that happened this past week since I posted...
Tuesday my husband's family got into town, and will be here a total of two weeks (one of which is almost over now). Of course this means we have been eating out more, and I went grocery shopping to feed 14 people (yes that is how many people are staying in our house, including us) and spent $300 for two weeks, which actually doesn't seem like enough when you think about it. We have given up on the budget until all our company is gone, and I honestly can't wait to get back on it! I expect our utility bills to skyrocket for this month with all the extra showers and loads of laundry, the lights that seem to always be left on in every room of the house, and running the air conditioning lower than we usually do so that our family isn't miserably hot while they are here.
We got a letter from my husband's allergy doctor, who we owe about $700 for allergy testing they did several months ago, to inform us that they will no longer be accepting the small monthly payments we have been making. If we do not pay them in full they will turn the account over to a collection agency. Of course we do not have $700 laying around, so guess what? This will be going on the credit card. I just hate that! What really irritated me about the letter was that they said "We realize that in the current economy many families are finding it harder to make ends meet, but we can no longer accept the small monthly payments you have been making." What?! They aren't being very understanding at all.
I am several chapters into the Dave Ramsey book The Total Money Makeover and I am really enjoying it. In fact I have gotten my husband so interested in it by talking about it all the time that he is going to read it after I do! I am hoping this will be the plan that can bring us together on our budget and financial goals so that we can work together to get them accomplished. I will keep you posted of course. I can't wait until we can sit down and do Dave's first step creating a monthly budget together, that we can both agree on and promise each other we will follow it 100% unless we get the other person's permission to go over on something.

Sorry about your troubles. Bummer the allergy testing was so expensive. You should let your company help pay for groceries if they offer.
I definitely will!
Since you said you're eating out a little more, just thought I'd share what I just discovered: http://mylifeasasahm.blogspot.com/2008/06/eating-out-for-whole-lot-less-money.html.
Oh, and the creating a budget that you BOTH agree on - that was really hard for us. Even once we both agreed on it, DH still tries to buy big stuff not planned for, telling me, "I thought we said we were going to get ____." I have even gone so far as to create a Summer Spending document for us both to see and refer to. Helps to have it in black and white so there are no misunderstandings.
I have looked at that website before but couldn't find any restaurants I had heard of in our area. Sounds like a good deal though...maybe we will have to try some new places to take advantage of the good deals.
