My husband started having car trouble on the way home from a business trip on Tuesday. Today he took the car in to a local mechanic who specializes in European cars. The problem was a coil and the cost for that part is $30 plus labor, but the mechanic recommended replacing all four coils because when one goes out the others tend to go out soon after. We decided to go ahead and do that, so I really hope he is not pulling our leg. The total cost is going to be $491 for four coils, the diagnostic test to find out what was wrong with it, our regular service that was overdue (oil change, filters, etc), and labor. That is not too bad I guess, but it will pretty much wipe out our snowball payment for this month. At least we are paying with cash, so there is much to be thankful for!
