Debt Snowball Payment (Again!)

Yesterday when I was balancing our checkbook/budget from last month I realized that we had around $550 left in our checking account. With the budget we are using (Dave Ramsey's) we are supposed to budget our entire income down to the last penny, and our checking account should reflect that. We have no outstanding checks or debits, so as far as I can tell this money is ours to spend.

My best guess as to how it got there is that it has accumulated little by little over the past year and I just now realized it was EXTRA money. For example: When I make a return I don't put it back into the budget, when we get a little extra money I don't put it into the budget as income, so it is things like this that added up. I balance my checkbook with our online banking twice a month so there is no way it was a bank error or anything like that. SO we decided to go ahead and spend it, and if somehow I am wrong and that is not extra money we do have our mini emergency fund to fall back on if need be or we could just work it back into the budget somehow.

Today I paid $400 of that money towards our last credit card, which we are currently working on in our debt snowball. The original balance on this card when we started on baby step 2 was $4,047.63, and after our payment today the balance will be $817.19. YAY, we are almost credit card free!

Isn't that amazing! And the rest of your debt is school debt? How awesome! This 4th of July you are so much closer to celebrating financial freedom!

Thank you! The rest of our debt is a rather large personal loan from my dad from several years back, a car loan, and student loans.
