Past Few Weeks

I've been a bit lazy with the blogging, with the budgeting (sticking to budget), and with the 45 daily goals. To be honest I'm up half the night, asleep half the day, and CONSTANTLY thinking about meeting the little fellow that I've been waiting for most of my life. This end part is atrocious.

Last week I went $39.06 over budget. The week before that I went $48.23 over budget. Both of those are pretty horrible outcomes. I'm not going to excuse either of them. In fact I'm planning on cutting $10 out of the budget each week for the next month in an attempt to make up some of that reckless spending. This week's going pretty well though. So far this year I've spent an average of $14.67 a day.

We'll see how it goes once the little guy arrives. I can't even begin to imagine what we're going to need or how our spending habits are going to evolve. I like to think the husband will be leaving the house a bit less so that'll save some money (fingers crossed). We shouldn't have any formula costs if everything goes according to plan and I am cloth diapering (no diapering costs... after I finish acquiring all the BumGenius we need). We can do this. Yes we can.

A quick update on the hooded towel conundrum: We returned several of the extra hooded towels along with some duplicate items and a few things we in no way shape or form needed which we'd received at the baby showers and we were able to purchase a nice swing for our little guy without spending a penny. It's assembled, sitting in the living room, and waiting patiently for baby (unlike mommy who's lost all patience at this point).

  1. You might want to invest in some paper diapers in case the little one gets a bad rash at the beginning. Also if you have him circumcised you will want the urine to wick away from the surgery for a few days. Cloth diapers hold in wetness and even though they are cheaper and better for the environment I found the in convenience was not worth is the first few week. Just a thought. I am excited and I know you are tired and anxious for the birth.

    1. The newer cloth diapers are supposed to pull wetness away better than the disposables. BUT I am planning on using disposables for probably 2 or 3 weeks just to get used to the little guy being here and not having to be washing diapers all the while : )

  2. Hello. I found your site through SammyLeia's blog list. Nice blog! Read your story under "the monster" and want to congratulate you with your progress, you've been doing good! I could recognise myself in your story, I myself come from a family where credit was considered like salary and my parents were constantly under huge debt. When you grow up like that you get a kind of distorted relationship with credit. It took me years to understand that. And for me too the prospect of planning on children was a kind of wake up call. I am glad I finally understood how to handle debt, my parents still don't...

  3. Hi. Congrats on your great progress so far. I just embarked on a similar plan and decided to see if their were others blogging about it and came to your site. I've only started in Feb. and my average is close to yours $14.57 a day. It's hard. I haven't attempted to actually form a budget or financial freedom goals but your blog has got me thinking along those lines. Good luck. I'm a mom, too. You're in best ride of your life!
