I've surprised myself by pulling off yet another no spend. I really thought I'd end up spending money today.

Tomorrow I'd planned to shop but Friday and Saturday there's an instant $10 off a $50 purchase at the stores I work (and shop) in. I don't want to shop two days in a row because I have been working so hard on getting the no spends in this month but I am very ready to get more groceries.

Yes, this is the kind of stuff I think about 50% of the day. It's kind of pathetic. Or maybe it's just one of the hats that comes along with being a mom and the budget-er of the family.

On a somewhat related but other note I can't believe March is over half over already. I need to stop thinking about the darn no spends, shopping lists, what to make for dinner, and the budget and get back to my quarter goals. This first quarter of the year is rapidly drawing to a close!

Back to the basement!

Average daily spending for 2015: $17.49
$185.93 left to spend in March

  1. There was a line I remember from the movie One Fine Day with Michelle Pfeiffer. I love that movie as it was so my life at the time (except no George Clooney and I wasn't a single mom-whatever, I digress). When Michelle said asked her sister for child care help because she had no job, a nanny, and a housekeeper, the sister snapped back, " I do have a job. I'm CEO of this household." That's why you think budget 50% of the time I think, your the CEO.

  3. It really is - it seems the older I get, the faster time goes by!!! I'm like you - it seems like my whole life revolves around finances but if I don't do it, who will? Does your husband want anything to do with the money/budget/finances? Mine wants no part of it whatsoever....he makes the money and I allot where it goes which he hates doing and I am very good at and...don't tell him, but.....actually enjoy. I would enjoy it more if there was a little MORE money, but... :)

You are really rocking those no spend days.....out of the last 12 days, we have had 10 no spends - yay!!! I find if I don't leave the house I spend a lot less....hmmm, go figure :)

    1. My husband wants less than nothing to do with the finances. I tried for years to at least inform him of the incoming an outgoing but he gets all flustered when I bring it up. We're together on that one Sue! I think I too like working with numbers and getting everything organized and in place but I hate grocery shopping and I'm TOTALLY with you, it'd be considerably more enjoyable to run the budget if there was a little more money. But I'll just keeping working with what we've got :)

Good job on the no spends! It's SO much easier to not spend if you don't leave the house. That's actually a great strategy. Too bad I work in a supermarket (my stores are similar to Walmart. Only a bit nicer, and more of a local business... a big local business but local in comparison to Walmart) So it's like working in a mine field. No spend days can be REALLY difficult! And it's so easy to blow a no spend on some $2 or $3 thing that's "such a great deal." But that's one of the things I love most about no spend days, they really keep me from nickle and dimeing the budget to death.

  4. I am amazed at your restraint - it would be very, VERY hard for me to work in a store (of any kind) because I am such an "instant gratification" kind of girl!!! I grew up in a very abusive household and literally had NOTHING - not because there was no money, I was just a thorn in their sides....but I digress....so now I still use that as an excuse to get what I want - need to work very hard on that!!!!

    1. Isn't it AMAZING how much our childhoods and past have ingrained these very specific needs and habits into us, even when they might be ones we abhor? I have a very difficult time completing ANYTHING, even when I wash the dishes I end up leaving like 3 or 4 dirty ones on the counter. When I was a kid and my parents got divorced I was sort of left to take care of everything concerning our home and my siblings but I really wasn't equipped as a kid with the skills to do so and all of my tasks seemed to never fully accomplish the job at hand.

I think it's good that we can identify these things and just "baby step" daily try to work through them. It's tough though, for sure!
