Flowers, Sunday, and Cake

Yesterday's gorgeous weather seems to have invoked flowers. The first bloom on the wild rose bush and the first gloriously orange poppy in our yard both opened today.

The little buddy and I spent even more time out of doors today than we did yesterday and the both of us enjoyed every minute of it. Lawn mowing, grass clipping, LOTS of water activities, bird watching, dog chasing, sunshine, sunshine, iced coffee and lounging! This weekend does NOT have to end.

Oh, and cake! I had a banana I needed to use. Normally I'd make a half batch of mini banana muffins but I wanted to try something new so I baked a tiny banana cake with impromptu strawberry glaze. (I'm starting to use the word impromptu for anytime I bake or cook something without a recipe) Strawberry banana cake! That's how you rock a no spend day (#46 for the year).

This was an absolutely perfect Sunday. Again, can this weekend PLEASE not end?

Average daily spending for 2016: $18.83
$64.10 left in May's budget

Candles make any cake more special.

  1. Oh what a happy day!!! We had to spend money on pool chemicals & cat litter (both necessities), but I was hoping for a no-spend day as well!!!! You are turning into a wonderful photographer - your photos have so much color and "pop"!!!

    1. The cat litter is an obvious necessity but the pool chemicals is a fun necessity. I mean, that means you have a nice refreshing pool to cool off in during the hot days.

Thanks for the compliment. I've always liked taking photos. I have a pretty good camera too. It's older now and I bought it on a pretty deep discount but it's a good camera.

  2. I don't think you are giving yourself credit for how good you are spending-wise. You've recorded the same average as yesterday ($18.83) but you've spent nothing and one more day has passed. (See, I really do read each post carefully!)

    1. BUT what you don't realize is that some days I give myself more credit than I deserve. I'd planned for a no spend day yesterday and I put that into my average daily spending the day before. Somehow that little trick helps me stick to the no spend. If I don't stick to a no spend that I've already counted then the average jumps up a lot more. That's no fun.

  4. It looks like it was a wonderful weekend. We spent a lot of time in the yard too. It is such a blessing to be outside. I love the summer but it is a lot of working getting everything together.

    1. It is a lot of work but there's something deranged about me. I really love yard work.

  5. You do such a good job managing your finances, especially your no spend days.

I need a no spend month, not just a day. Or maybe I need a no surprise spending month. I guess it will not happen this month since the compressor on the a/c at the lake is not working. (Still under warranty but it does not cover labor, bummer!)

    1. Thank-you. I've honestly been working REALLY hard for many years now to keep our spending really low. Sometimes it gets away from me but I try really hard. We need to pay off lots of debt but there is something about minimal spending that I also kind of enjoy.

It's so good that the a/c is still under warranty even if you do have to pay labor! Bummer that you have to deal with that though especially since it is so hot down by you.
