Cake, Chili, Sheep, and Birthdays

The lemon cake with lemon frosting is done (and it tastes pretty darn good if you ask me; yes, I made one cupcake along with the actual cake so that I could sample the cake before cutting into it tomorrow). One cake down, one to go.

Tonight for dinner we had leftover chili and I made a little chili sandwich with my portion. I made a pulled pork chili in the crock pot the other day. It cooked for 16 hours. The chili turned out good but the left overs are pretty thick... not complaining but it made for a great pulled pork chili sandwich. I topped it with sour cream and cilantro.

My shopping trip today went pretty well despite my mini melt down this morning. I spent a little over $10 on cake ingredients. My mom is paying for half of that, so that's $5 on cake ingredients. I spent $31.37 on other groceries. I'm pretty sure I've got plenty of everything to accomplish three more no spends in a row. Here we go again!

Now onto the weekend. Oh, and baking another cake. Tomorrow morning little Abe and I will be going to the sheep sheering day with his friend and mine. I don't plan to spend anything there. You can expect a few pictures from that. We're pretty excited about the adventure. OH, and it's supposed to be in the upper 30's tomorrow! I'm not being sarcastic. That is WARM compared to the teens and below zero temps we've been having for months. Maybe some of this snow will melt tomorrow to make way for spring to actually arrive. Then tomorrow evening my family is having a "February and March birthdays" get together at my mom & sister's house. We have five birthdays in Feb. and March. Hence all the cake.

Average daily spending for 2015: $18.21
$291.41 left to spend in March

  1. The cakes sound wonderful and how smart are you to make a cupcake along with it. We've got the 30's in MN too this weekend. Yesterday I drove to work in an -11 below air not windshield temp. I suspect shorts will come out by some on Sunday.

    1. I was altering a recipe so it dawned on me to make one cupcake. I'd feel pretty horrible if I brought a whole cake to my family gathering that ended up tasting horrid. It's not the best cake ever but it turned out good. Yay for one little tester cupcake.

Oh my goodness, I know exaclty what you mean about the "shorts" when the weather gets about 30. I'm sure I'll be seeing that here too!

  2. Oh, I've been waiting for this - I can't WAIT to hear about the sheep shearing!!!

I did not do so well at the grocery store - budgeted $200 and spent almost $300....now, if we can make it through the entire month on that it won't be so bad....we'll see. I just maybe need to switch to a cash system so I CAN'T go over.

    1. I've really been trying to do that, bring the amount of cash with me that I want to spend. Oooh, it can put a good deal of pressure on you though. Good idea!

  3. That sandwich looks awesome. I have a pork roast in the freezer. I might try making that.

    1. I have half a shoulder left in the freezer. I'll probably do a barbecue pulled pork with the other half. The chili is good but my husband really likes spice and it was a bit too much for me. The bread from the bun really cut the spice though so I really liked the way this worked as a sandwich.
