It's Like An Easter Egg Hunt In December

I've been brainstorming. Today I'll be crawling on hands and knees through our house looking for change. My husband gets spending "cash" each week but he seems to think change isn't money. I know there's change lying around in our room and down stairs I just have to find it.

Then I'm going to gather refund bottles (Michigan has a 10 cent bottle deposit on carbonated beverages). I'm pretty good at taking them back but I know we have at least $2 worth around the house right now.

Next I'll take a second look through the fridge and cupboards and jot down all the meals we have food for. I'll try and get my hubby to agree to eating those meals before I buy stuff for any other meals. I'm pretty good at not throwing out any food since I usually only plan meals 4 days out but we have a few odds and ends that need to get eaten right now. He spent $27 on dinner last night now we get to eat scraps for a few days (okay, not scraps really).

Today's mission: find money and meals, strategically compile a grocery list for tomorrow, and knock out NO SPEND 92.

Today's question: just how much money can I hunt down? Results later!

  1. My Hubs is the same way with change.....leaves it laying all over and in his pockets. The rule here is if he sets it down anywhere but on his dresser it becomes my property! lol

Don't forget under the seat cushions, the laundry room(in the washer and dryer and check the pocket of the dirty clothes) and the floor of Hubs car.
    Good luck!

    1. TOTALLY the same set of rules here! If the change isn't in the pants pockets currently on his body then it's mine. I've been preoccupied so I haven't been picking it up lately. Today I am on a mission!

  4. I'm always stealing my husbands change. He'll use it if he has it on him but its always falling out of his pockets. If he does take it out of his pockets, he sets it next to his wallet. But I still take it if I see it out and put it in our change jar.

  5. I wish we got refunds for bottles. That could really add up.

    1. You have to pay a 10 cent deposit on them so then you get the deposit back when you turn them in but still it seems like you're getting a little extra money when you return them. Also, if you find any laying around then that's free money (to you). Here people actually do dig through trash cans regularly for refund bottles.

  6. We moved to Kalamazoo 12 years ago from South Carolina and it was very weird to get used to paying the deposit on carbonated beverages! It is fun to find discarded bottles. Free money! Even if it is only .10!

    1. Those dimes really do add up fast though. I've always lived in Michigan so whenever I visit other places I freak out a little when I see people throwing away pop cans. Mini heart attack, "NOT THE 10 CENTS!!!" Then I remember I'm not in Michigan : )
